We went to Boscombe in early summer before the schools had started holidays.

We booked an Airbnb apartment and went from London. The rail journey from London Waterloo to Pokesdown is a pleasant 1hr 50 minutes and with a senior railcard was only £30 return.

We took a taxi to the apartment which was 200 metres from the main beach road. The scrubland known as The Overcliff is beautiful natural heathland and Alfie my cockerpoo loving running off the lead there. One walks along to the zigzag paths that take you to the beaches which are stunning , clean and v quiet at this time.

Under undercliff walk East takes one for a long walk uninterrupted sandy beaches with the occasional café and Ice Cream stand. The Isle of White is clearly visible walking in the direction.

Walking west takes on towards Boscombe Pier which is a walking pier unspoilt by fruit machines or fairground rides.

From here one can see Bournemouth further west and much busier. There is a scenic railway train that will take you along the beach to Bournemouth Pier and restaurants.

Just next to Boscombe Pier on the beach is Urban Reef a restaurant serving a wide range of food and drinks at reasonable prices.

Right on the beachfront are the wonderful Bournemouth Beach Lodges . Wonderfully designed with terraces overlooking the beach.

Boscombe town is as one would expect fairly small and while not particularly inspiring has a pleasant precinct.

Overall we were very pleasantly surprised at how beautiful the seafront is, the walks the beaches and the restaurants. I would highly recommend it especially if you have a dog. Out of season dogs are allowed on the beaches and after May there are beaches where dogs are allowed and they are clean with easy access to the nice clean waters.
